Who Wore It Best: Halloween Edition

Here at Gemvara we’re a bit obsessed with weddings. So when the two biggest weddings of the year (dare we say decade) both happened this past summer, we had to have a little showdown. Now it’s Halloween and this morning’s Halloween TV specials seemed to be channeling some those same wedding vibes.
On NBC’s “Today Show” Halloween Special at Rockefeller Plaza, the crew staged their very own royal wedding, complete with Meredith Vieira, who made a surprise appearance as the Queen of England. Prince William was played by Matt Lauer and Ann Curry was Kate Middleton in the wildly successful spectacle. They were joined by Prince Harry (Al Roker), Pippa Middleton (Natalie Morales), Prince Charles (Savannah Guthrie) and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie (Kathie Lee Grifford and Hoda Kotb).
On the other hand, Nick Lachey and Kelly Ripa dressed up as Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian for “Live! with Regis and Kelly.” Lachey stepped in (on stilts) for an absent Regis and towered over dark-haired Ripa. Both were perfectly in character. Unfortunately, the actual Kardashian/Humphries couple filed for divorce this morning. Talk about some bad timing.
Which TV crew’s costume do you like best?

Taking Off The Ring
Her wedding was touted as the celebration of the year and calling her rock “enormous” may be an understatement. However, recently Kim Kardashian has been spotted sans enagement ring.
In case you forgot, back in May, Kris Humphries presented Kim with a 20.5-carat platinum engagement ring designed by Lorraine Schwartz worth an estimated $2 million. On her actual wedding day (which will be broadcast on E! this Sunday, October 9th) the bride and groom exchanged wedding bands, also designed by Lorraine, that cost a mere $200,000.
One would think that with diamonds like those on her finger she would never want to take them off! But, don’t jump to any conclusions. Kim and Kris are not on the rocks. Instead Kim explains to Women’s Wear Daily why she doesn’t always wear her ring:
“I don’t wear [any jewelry] to work out. I was leaving the gym yesterday and I didn’t have my ring on, and there [were] all these photographers taking pictures, and I said to my sister, ‘Just watch, Kourtney. You will see a story ‘Kim Without Her Ring. Trouble in Paradise.’”
Kim is not alone is her decision to not wear her engagement or wedding ring. Besides the obvious and the most worrisome explanation (“trouble in paradise”) it seems that comfort is the main reason women don’t wear their rings.
Although it is customary, many times wearing your engagement ring and your wedding band on the same finger can be uncomfortable. For this reason, many women opt to wear only their wedding band and save their engagement ring for special occasions.
On the other hand, it seems silly to not wear your engagement ring. After all, it is quite the investment piece and for a ring that is supposed to represent love and commitment, it could be considered counter intuitive to take it off. For celebrities or women with large rings, the threat of it being stolen or scratched is also a definite possibility.
What do you think? Should engagement rings be worn at all times or are there exceptions?
Kim Kardashian's Wedding Ring
You may already be sick with jealously (or just plain sick) over the caliber of Kim Kardashian’s wedding festivities, but as Kim continues to celebrate the affair in NYC, we’re going to celebrate, or least marvel at, her jewels!
Most of us have seen Kim’s engagement ring from Kris Humphries — the show-stopping 20.5 carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring that features a 16.5 emerald cut center stone flanked by two-carat trapezoids. (See Gemvara’s Glacier Ring for a similar, and much less expensive, version).
Now Kim has a massive wedding band to go with it. Her wedding band, also designed by Lorraine Schwartz, is made of platinum and encrusted with 12 carats worth of diamonds. However, the most shocking aspect it of all is that Kim is wearing both of the rings on the same finger, resulting in a grand total of 32.5 carats of diamonds!
Jewelry expert Michael O’Connor commented on Kim’s ring saying, “Kim chose a diamond eternity band set in platinum by Lorraine Schwartz, approximately 12 carats, with an estimated price tag of $60,000 USD. Kim clearly wanted the best quality wedding ring, and since the diamonds are set in platinum the setting won’t fade or tarnish — making it the perfect symbol of enduring love!”
What do you think of Kim wearing her engagement ring and wedding band on the same finger? Although it is customary, do you think it’s overkill for her two massive rocks?

High Shine Studs
In the world of the red carpet we’ve seen it all when it comes to earrings: the hoops, the drops and we’ve definitely come across the statements. However, rarely do we see celebrities wearing simple, gemstone stud earrings.
Of course, statement earrings may seem like a go-to for such a momentous occasion as a trip down paparazzi lane; however when paired in the correct way, stud earrings can be just as eye-catching.
Studs are especially stunning in colored gems. You may have heard the saying before that, “Every woman should own a pair of earrings to match her eyes.” Well, studs are the perfect earring to accomplish this. Rose McGowan does an excellent job of bringing attention to her lovely brown eyes with gorgeous citrine studs. The color may not be exact, but the yellow shimmer brings out the golden tones in her eyes and perfectly contrasts with her teal dress.
Another way to wear colored studs is to match them to your outfit. Emma Stone does a good job of this as she matches her pink studs to her red dress and light pink lip. Kim Kardashian also wears colorless, diamond studs in order to compliment her white top. Both earrings sparkle and add just the right amount of bling.
To get the stud earring look for yourself take a peek at all Gemvara’s gemstone studs. Pick ones to match your eyes, your outfit, your birthstone or anything you’d like. No matter how small, they will be guaranteed to shine!

Kim's Weekend Wedding Recap
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are married! While we won’t get to see the wedding in it’s entirety until October when the four-hour E! special airs, sources People Magazine and Us Weekly have revealed some of the elaborate details.
Kim (30) and New Jersey Nets player Kris (26) said, “I do” on Saturday evening in front of 440 guests at Montecito, California’s Sotto II Monte, a private estate reportedly owned by Google exec Eric Schmidt.
Among the 440 guests were Ryan Seacrest, Demi Lovato, Carmelo Anthony, Lindsay Lohan, Venus and Serena Williams, Vera Wang, Mario Lopez, Eva Longoria, Sugar Ray Leonard and Brody Jenner.
The estate was decorated in a sea of black and white, the theme of the wedding. The guests were even instructed to wear black and white. Kim’s stepfather, Bruce Jenner walked her down the aisle as she wore an ivory, custom-designed Vera Wang gown with “full tulle skirt, basque waist and hand pieced Chantilly lace appliqué on the bodice and train,” according to People. Kim also wore a headpiece for a veil and Guiseppe Zanotti shoes.
Kris wore a white peak lapel tuxedo jacket and black pants with a white tuxedo shirt and white bow tie, all by Ermenegildo Zegna. The groomsmen also wore tuxes by Zegna with black peak lapel jackets, white shirts, and black silk bow ties.
Kim’s two sisters, Kourtney and Khole, were co-maids of honor and both wore white dresses. Kendall and Kylie Jenner, as well as Humphries’ sister Kaela were bridesmaids. Kourtney’s son Mason Disick was the ring bearer.
The alter at the estate was designed to be a huge cross of Swarovski crystals. The couple both wrote their own vows and exchanged rings by Lorranie Schwartz, who also designed Kim’s engagement ring.
The reception to follow continued the black and white theme. Kim changed twice during the night, both into Vera Wang ivory gowns with a Judith Leiber clutch. Kris also changed to into a tux to match his groomsmen.
The reception was catered by Wolfgang Puck, the wedding cake was from Hansen’s bakery and Perrier Jouet supplied the champagne. Robin Thick sang “Angels” for the couple’s first dance reports Us Weekly and there were also performances by Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind and Fire.
Oddly enough, despite all the extravagant details, the New York post reports that the couple actually made money from their wedding. NYPost estimates that the couple made $17.9 million off the affair just from saying, “I do.” Talk about a fairy tale wedding!
