Here are our favorite red carpet looks by Fall shade:
We just loved the shades of yellow that the celebs were wearing last night. Claire Danes accessorized beautifully with monochromatic stacked bracelets – this look could be accomplished by pairing our Sirus Bracelet, Jocelyn Star Bracelet and Star Trails Bracelet in all Citrine. Julianne Moore is as always classy and classic. Our Naked Cushion Triple Earrings in London blue topaz would be a gorgeous contrast to her fire-red hair. Julie Bowen wore very little accessories with her bright yellow gown, but was sporting a HUGE rock of an engagement ring!
Tina Fey looked gorgeous in her Oxblood colored dress with lovely drop earrings – this look could be achieved with our Stiletto Earrings in white sapphire and 14k yellow gold. We absolutely love the cocktail ring that Julia Louis-Dreyfus wore in contrast to her red gown!Add a pop of color like Julia with our naked cushion ring! And Cat Deely compliment her red gown with elegant gold drop earrings – like our Triple Drops!
Ginnifer Goodwin was as stunning as ever in this year’s color – tangerine tango – and with the number one jewelry trend of the night: statement earrings! We think our Belle Earrings in fire opal and gold would have matched her dress beautifully. What do you think? Leslie Mann’s turquoise accent pieces add a pop of color to her dress. You too can add a touch of color with the dangly blue topaz Monsoon Earrings to accent your favorite fall looks! Padma Lakshmi found her own color indeed. She looked amazing in her tangerine orange gown and we love the simple diamond earrings she wore with it.

If you haven’t heard yet, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are tying the knot after dating on and off for three years. Girls everywhere, including here at Gemvara, are distraught at the news of Hemsworth becoming officially off the market, despite our adoration of Cyrus. But the juiciest details of this love story is, of course, the ring. Hemsworth and jeweler Neil Lane worked together to create the antique 3.5 carat cushion cut diamond set in 18 carat yellow gold. The ring also has intricate detailing with carved diamond floral motifs in an art nouveau pattern.
Luckily for those of us who don’t have a high profile celebrity jeweler on speed dial (or the Hemsworth brothers for that matter), Gemvara has several options that resemble Cyrus’ dazzling ring.

When I think of famous jewelry collectors, Elizabeth Taylor automatically comes to mind. But before Elizabeth could even begin her jewelry addiction, Queen Elizabeth II had amassed a fortune in gems.
The queen has so much jewelry that she had a special room the size of an ice rink built 40 ft. below Buckingham Palace to house her precious gems. And we thought our tiered jewelry boxes were pretty special.
Her collection is valued at $57 million dollars and includes the Timur Ruby – a magnificent spinel weighing 352.50 carats. Inscribed on it are the names of all the former owners, all of whom were Mughal emperors.
The Queen also owns the diamonds Cullinan I, II, III and IV, all of which are were cut from the rough Cullinan diamond and are considered Crown Jewels.
If you could any gemstone you’d like (wouldn’t that be nice!), which one would you add to your jewelry collection?]]>
Today, Google celebrates Peter Carl Fabergé’s 166th birthday by creating a Google Doodle out of these legendary trinkets. Fabergé was a Russian jeweler famous for designing Easter eggs crafted from precious metals and gemstones. In 1885, the Romanov dynasty appointed Fabergé as the court jeweler and Alexander III (the son of Alexandrite’s namesake) enlisted Fabergé to make his wife, Princess Dagmar of Denmark, Easter egg gifts. There were only 50 of these Imperial eggs ever made, and only 42 survive. The eggs took on many different shapes and levels of elaboration, with the only requirement set that each egg must contain a surprise. Non-Imperial eggs were generally miniature in nature and typically worn as necklaces, sometimes as multi-egg bundles. The House of Fabergé made a range of other objects besides these Easter egg knick knacks, from silver tableware to fine jewelry.
Our newest gemstone, adding to the expansive collection at Gemvara, is Alexandrite. This unique gemstone radiates a beautiful ocean green hue in bright sunlight, but in softer mood lighting shines in sultry red and purple tones. This stunning gem can be found in the Ural Mountains of Russia and represents the 55th anniversary gem as well as the June birthstone. Alexandrite was first discovered in the 1830s and named after Alexander II, the future Czar of Russia for his 16th birthday. It was particularly popular in that time since the stone’s colors mimicked those of the Russian Imperial flag. Because of it’s chemical composition, Alexandrite is extremely uncommon larger than 3 carats and very rare, in fact it is more precious than a diamond. It is a variety of the stone chrysoberyl and the color change comes from iron, titanium, and chromium as impurities.
Alexandrite is a very hard stone (8.5) and thus perfect for everyday wear. It is also known to be a good omen, a good luck amulet and strengthen the intuition of the bearer. It can be easily cleaned with warm, soapy water.]]>
Monroe famously sung about diamonds as a girl’s best friend, and keeping suit, Chopard designed a set with her in mind for an identity-concealed star to reveal at the Opening Ceremony. Last night, supermodel Eva Herzigova sported the stunning pieces accompanied by a pale pink Dolce & Gabbana gown. The necklace featured cascading heart-shaped diamonds, briolettes, and beads worked into an intricate lace set in 18K white gold, in total there were over 200 carats in diamonds. Of course no necklace is complete without matching earrings. The set was completed after 980 hours of work and designed by Chopard’s Co-President, Caroline Scheufele. Before the big unveiling, the only detail Scheufele divulged was that the set would be worn by “a glamorous woman as she glides up the famous red-carpeted staircase.”
