Celebrity Engagement Rings – 2012!
This year many celebrities have found their one true love and have shown off their passion with beautiful, stunning engagement rings. Another year, another count down of the best of the best in this year’s celebrity engagement rings.
1. Blake Lively’s oval 10 carat pink diamond:
Blake’s ring blows us away. It is rumored to have cost as much as 2 million dollars and was designed by Lorraine Schwartz alongside Ryan Reynolds, her beau. The center stone is a flawless, light pink oval diamond. It was set in rose gold and has pave diamonds on the band that are very art deco. The center stone is around 10 carets and the surrounding diamonds in the two bands brings it to around 11-12 carats.
2. Miley Cyrus’s yellow gold, cushion-cut diamond ring:
Miley Cyrus’s engagement was also quite a surprise given Liam and her’s young age. The ring was designed by Neil Lane and it does not follow the typical engagement ring trend. Miley went for the unconventional yellow cold with a smaller diamond (only 3.5 carats). The “Art-Nouveau” band also has many smaller diamonds. Lane was quote saying that the yellow gold “gave meaning to what [Miley] was wearing, something different, something be proud of.”
3. Halle Berry’s green and gold ring:
We love Halle Berry’s emerald and diamond ring com commissioned by her beau Olivier Martinez from Robert Mazlo. Although it still hasn’t been confirmed, the band is suspected to be white gold or platinum with the 4 carat emerald center stone set in 18k yellow gold. She has filigree a design element that makes the ring unique. It has a code that only the wearer can understand. This ring also has two diamonds in the gold setting.
4. Jennifer Anniston’s emerald-cut diamond ring:
Everyone’s favorite friend, Jennifer Aniston is finally (happily) engaged! Her beau, Justin Theroux proposed on his birthday and received the best present of all, Jen’s hand in marriage. The engagement ring is an 8 carat diamond emerald-cut ring takes up half of her finger. It is rumored to have cost as much as $500,000.
5. Keira Knightley’s brilliant cut solitaire diamond ring: 
Keira Knightley’s ring is stunning but classic. She became engaged in May when her finance James Righton proposed. It is a solid platinum band with a brilliant cut solitaire diamond in approximately 2 carats. It is worth around $40,000. It is timeless and simple, just like Knightley.
6. Evan Rachel Wood’s diamond solitaire ring: 
Early in 2012, Evan Rachel Wood flaunted an enormous engagement ring from Jamie Bell her boyfriend. Jamie and her have had an up and down relationship but they rekindle in the summer of 2011. It is a simple ring with a large diamond on a plain white gold band. They got married only five days ago!
7. Anne Hathaway’s 6 carat diamond ring:
Anne Hathaway got engaged in late 2011 to Adam Shulman. The ring is a design collaboration between her fiance and Kwiat Heritage Jewels. This ring is worth an estimated $150,000. It is in a platinum setting and a beautiful shining diamond. They recently got married and Anne wore a beautiful pink wedding gown.
8. Jessica Biel’s vintage engagement ring: 
Justin Timberlake really out did himself with this stunning ring. With approximately six carats, the band and the center stone are rumored to have cost has much as $130,000. There are scrolling rope-sides with blackened platinum. It goes without saying, Jessica Biel has a stunning original ring. Recently married, Jessica also wore a pink gown.
9. JWoww’s cushion cut pink and white diamond ring: 
JWoww’s ring is a gorgeous ring and very unique. It is 7.5 carats and is rumored to have cost around $100,000. The center stone is around 5 carats surrounded by pink and white diamonds in a white gold setting. Her fiance Roger Mathews was heavily involved in the process including picking the diamonds and designing the ring. The process took several months. Fun fact? He asked her to marry him while skydiving!
10. Avril Lavigne’s platinum-set pear shaped diamonds with half moons: 
Nothing surprised us more than Avril Lavigne’s engagement to Nickleback frontman Chad Kroeger. After dating for six months, Kroeger proposed with this gigantic ring. The center diamond is approximately 10 carats with rare half-moon diamonds each 4 carats on the side. The pear shape diamond with the classic platinum has vintage glamour and individuality. It is valued at $350,000.
Emmy Awards 2012 Colors and Gems!
Last night’s 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards brought us a plethora of fall colors and gorgeous drop earrings to match. We loved the overarching theme of simple accessories that added just the right touch of glitz to every outfit in all sorts of brilliant fall hues.

Yellow:
We just loved the shades of yellow that the celebs were wearing last night. Claire Danes accessorized beautifully with monochromatic stacked bracelets – this look could be accomplished by pairing our Sirus Bracelet, Jocelyn Star Bracelet and Star Trails Bracelet in all Citrine. Julianne Moore is as always classy and classic. Our Naked Cushion Triple Earrings in London blue topaz would be a gorgeous contrast to her fire-red hair. There has been a plethora of celebrity engagements & marriages this month. Not only has the elusive single lady since Ben Pitt, Jennifer Anniston gotten engaged and so has Avril Lavigne and Blake Lively.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are Engaged!
If you haven’t heard yet, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are tying the knot after dating on and off for three years. Girls everywhere, including here at Gemvara, are distraught at the news of Hemsworth becoming officially off the market, despite our adoration of Cyrus. But the juiciest details of this love story is, of course, the ring. Hemsworth and jeweler Neil Lane worked together to create the antique 3.5 carat cushion cut diamond set in 18 carat yellow gold. Famous Jewels and the Celebrities Who Wore Them
When I think of famous jewelry collectors, Elizabeth Taylor automatically comes to mind. But before Elizabeth could even begin her jewelry addiction, Queen Elizabeth II had amassed a fortune in gems.
The queen has so much jewelry that she had a special room the size of an ice rink built 40 ft. below Buckingham Palace to house her precious gems. And we thought our tiered jewelry boxes were pretty special.
Her collection is valued at $57 million dollars and includes the Timur Ruby – a magnificent spinel weighing 352.50 carats. Inscribed on it are the names of all the former owners, all of whom were Mughal emperors.
The Queen also owns the diamonds Cullinan I, II, III and IV, all of which are were cut from the rough Cullinan diamond and are considered Crown Jewels.

The Great Gatsby Evokes Great Jewelry
The Great Gatsby is arguably the best “Great American Novel” dripping with love, deceit, and all things materialistic. The novel is a staple in practically every high school English class, and now being transformed (for the second time) into the next Christmas Blockbuster. Baz Luhrmann’s, soon to be hi,t is starring Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire and music from this century rather than the last. The part Gemvara is looking forward to the most is the sheer abundance of extravagant gems. Ruby Tuesday: Zuckerberg’s Secret Ruby Wedding
While most of us thought that last Friday would be the highlight of Mark Zuckerberg’s week, Saturday proved to trump Friday’s festivities as he married his long time girlfriend, Priscilla Chan, in an intimate ceremony in his back yard. Our favorite part: he strayed from the traditional diamond and put a Ruby ring on her finger.
Ruby’s have long been second in the running for engagement ring fashion (remember Princess Fergie’s Ruby engagement ring?), and due to Saturday’s nuptials we are hoping to see a resurgence in the trend. Due to their rich red hue, they symbolize passion, romance, and happiness – making them a perfect engagement ring stone.

Cannes Film Festival Marilyn Monroe Chopard Set
The Cannes Film Festival 2012 kicked off yesterday with the Opening Ceremony red carpet including walking up the hallowed steps of the Grand Palais in Cannes, France. This annual film festival is celebrating its 65th year with a tribute to Marilyn Monroe 50 years after her death. The festival’s sponsor, Chopard, will launch an exhibition of 25 unpublished photos of Marilyn Monroe taken by photographer Milton Greene during the festival, which will tour worldwide afterwards.
Monroe famously sung about diamonds as a girl’s best friend, and keeping suit, Chopard designed a set with her in mind for an identity-concealed star to reveal at the Opening Ceremony. Last night, supermodel Eva Herzigova sported the stunning pieces accompanied by a pale pink Dolce & Gabbana gown. The necklace featured cascading heart-shaped diamonds, briolettes, and beads worked into an intricate lace set in 18K white gold, in total there were over 200 carats in diamonds. Of course no necklace is complete without matching earrings. The set was completed after 980 hours of work and designed by Chopard’s Co-President, Caroline Scheufele. Before the big unveiling, the only detail Scheufele divulged was that the set would be worn by “a glamorous woman as she glides up the famous red-carpeted staircase.”
