Trending on Pintrest

There is a reason that a man’s classic tuxedo is black and white. There is a reason that nothing can stand in the way of an elegant white gown or elbow high satin black glove. The combination of black and white is a known classic trend and one that our Pintrest followers follow enthusiastically. This week on Pintrest we saw many different variations of black and white from black diamond and diamond, to black onyx and white sapphire.

With Gemvara’s nine different options for metals, the look of the piece can change dramatically without changing the gemstones. Switch it up and add a gorgeous rose gold, as seen in the Eclipse Necklace, and make the different colored diamonds pop.

With the simple gemstones in the Labyrinth Ring, the yellow gold metal truly pops. The complicated ring is just accented by the black and white gemstones. Go for the classic duo with sterling silver and black onyx with the trending Vine Leaf Studs.

It goes to show, although neon is sometimes trending, you can’t go wrong with the simple and classic look of black and white.

How will you design your next classic piece?

Customer Creation: Engagement Rings & Matching Bands

Natalie Ring, Duchess of Hearts Ring, Cecilia Ring

A wedding ring doesn’t just have to be a simple diamond anymore. As our customer favorites show, engagement rings and matching bands have more flair and style than ever before.  Add a gemstone, add two gemstones, and create that perfect engagement ring for you! These customers didn’t let their engagement rings stand-alone but also added the perfect complimentary matching band.

Personalizing the Cecilia Ring with peridot and surrounded by diamonds, this customer created a classic but modern engagement ring. Feminine and delicate, the Cecilia Ring won’t be a wallflower. Add our Matching Band in peridot (or any gemstone you choose!) to compliment the ring.

Compliment your demure style with a simple, vintage ring. A classic combination rose gold and amethyst, this Duchess of Hearts Ring also boasts 28 iridescent diamonds and was made perfect for this customer. Matched with the Duchess of Hearts Band in rose gold, this customer now radiates nobility.

Demure and classic not your style? Go bold with the Natalie Ring. This customer chose a yellow gold metal and a citrine center gemstone for quite the impact. No one will miss their engagement thanks to the two rows of diamonds and white sapphires surrounding the gem and running down the band. Add the Matching Band for the ultimate sparkle combination.

Whether you design your engagement ring yourself, with a partner or are pleasantly surprised, these three creations are sure to make their future owners very happy! Slide your ring on your left hand ring finger and admire the subtle brilliance of a gemstone engagement ring.

One Piece, Three Ways: Racetrack Ring

A statement ring is an easy way to take an outfit to the next level and the Racetrack Ring by Gemvara is exactly does exactly that in these three outfits, taking the ring from work, to a casual weekend, and a wedding reception.  This customized ring features a large green amethyst gem encircled with diamonds and set in palladium.  The light green plays well with every color, especially pinks and other greens.  Palladium is a little known precious metal but an excellent choice for settings since it is naturally white and will never tarnish as well as being a hypoallergenic metal.

Work with Gemvara Racetrack Ring

Wear this ring to work to spice up a basic black dress.  Add a coral blazer which is the perfect shade for summer, but will keep you warm in an overly air conditioned office.  Throw your keys into a chic green clutch that will bring out the green amethyst in the Racetrack Ring for extra sparkle.  Break up the all black dress by adding a simple long chain necklace or thing belt to accentuate the thinnest part of your waist.

Weekend with Gemvara Racetrack Ring

For a lazy weekend day running errands and window shopping, try pairing a light and flowing tank top with edgy leather shorts.  You’ll be able to walk miles in a pair of comfortable oxfords, we like the cut-outs in these to keep you cool.  A pair of oversize shades is always the best substitute for wearing makeup and with the Racetrack Ring as a statement; you won’t need any other jewelry for a fuss free yet stylish day!

Wedding Reception with Gemvara Racetrack Ring

Summer is wedding season, meaning dancing the night away.  Stay cool with a lightweight dress in a pastel hue.  This one has awesome draping and large arm holes to keep the air flowing.  Play up the earth tones in a pair of wooden-sole wedges (much more comfortable then stilettos) and a warm chocolate brown clutch.  Keep your makeup simple so it doesn’t melt off during the day.  This NARS multiple is small enough to throw in your bag for a quick reapply later in the evening.  The Racetrack Ring is all you need to polish off this look and you are ready to go!

How to Wear: Mixed Metals

Mixing Metals with Gemvara

For a long time, mixing jewelry metals was a fashion faux paux, but lately, it has been up for debate and the traditional side is losing.  Don’t be afraid to mix metals as long as you keep a few basic things in mind:

  • Keep the gemstones simple and/or matching.  In this set, we used all white sapphire gems to make sure that the pieces were not overwhelmed with color, and also to make the white and yellow gold stand out.
  • Use a bridge piece.  When mixing metals, try incorporating a piece that naturally has two tones of metal in it to tie the other pieces of jewelry together.  In this example, we used the Organic Stacking Ring set which has two white gold rings and one yellow gold ring in between as well as the Initial “M” Key which is primarily yellow gold except for the “M” in white gold.  This makes it easier to wear an all white gold or yellow gold piece such as these Margarita Earrings or if you have a single-colored piece that you always wear.
  • Keep an overall theme for the jewelry, so the mixing looks deliberate.  Stick to one general concept for the jewelry, such as vintage, contemporary, or traditional.  This set leans towards more traditional, delicate jewelry since the outfit it is with is much more outstanding.  The elegance of the jewelry balances the edginess of the bustier top and dramatic high-low skirt.  The accessories and makeup also balance out the skirt and top by keeping plain and neutral with peachy pink makeup.

How to Wear: Alexandrite

Garden Parties with Gemvara
This flowing, blush-colored dress lightens up the forest green and deep red tones of Alexandrite.  The bright green shoes make a statement while bringing out the sparkle in the Gemvara pieces.  This outfit is perfect for summer events since the fabric in the dress will promote airflow and wedges are much easier to walk in than pumps, especially if the event is outside/on grass.  You will want the Gemvara pieces to sparkle on their own, so keep makeup natural and a small clutch in a neutral color.
The Liana Ring uses a playful garden-like design which is perfect for Alexandrite’s earth tones and the outfit’s theme in general.  The Cadena d’Amour Necklace compliments the romantic silhouette and fabric of the dress.  Be sure to wear your hair off your shoulders to showcase the sweetheart neckline, keep you cool, and of course, show off the beautiful Watercolor Romance Drops with Rock Crystal.  These earrings are delicate enough to wear everyday but are sure to make the wearer sparkle.

Celebrate 4th of July in style with patriotic pieces from Gemvara and Americana garb.  Jean shorts are a summertime staple and look effortless with the cuffs rolled.  To make legs appear thinner and longer, shorts should hit mid-thigh where the leg slims.  An American flag shirt is the perfect statement for the 4th of July, but be sure to keep the shape simple to avoid overwhelming the entire look.  Flats and sandals are the easiest to maneuver through barbeques and backyard games of croquet. Avoid stiletto heels where you will sink into the grass.  A small cross body bag will hold the essentials without being cumbersome.  Red nails are always classic and help add a special patriotic touch for this holiday.  however, if you’re feeling really adventurous, try a red/white/blue nail design.

Now for your Accessories:

The Full Heart Pendant is a simple piece that is elegantly understated but perfect for this color-coordinated holiday. With a 16 or 18 inch chain it dangles at the perfect length to elongate the neck and show off the bright top.

The simple Tri Gem Culvert Ring is a remarkably constructed piece is perfect for layering rings and is simple enough to wear year-round. It is also perfect for signifying the three birthstones for September, April, and July babies.

Packing a little more sparkly punch, the Sheltering Sky Ring hosts a large center gemstone with two smaller accent gems. Playing up the bold statement shirt this wide-banded ring is spectacular alone but matches nicely when paired with the Tri Gem Culvert above.

Wedding Wares: Bride to Be

dress, shoes, earrings / dress, shoes, pendant / dress, shoes, drops

In the weekly column “Wedding Wares” we’ve given you tips for how to dress as a wedding guest, a bridesmaid and with our final segment we’re giving you our advice for what to wear as the bride.

Whether it be a garden theme, beach wedding or formal affair, the bridal gown is the most important dress at a wedding so we put a lot of thought into our picks. This lacy gown with scalloping detail from Ann Taylor seemed like an ideal choice for a garden party, while the strapless, lightweight chiffon dress is perfect for a beachy destination. We also loved the jeweled details on the Aidan Mattox halter dress for a formal wedding because let’s face it, we love jewels.

Second to the importance of the gown is the jewelry. We love the idea of wearing blue dangling drops (they can be your something blue!) to add some color to an all white ensemble. Simple diamond studs always look classy and a cute pendant is a nice touch for a casual wedding.

Which look is your favorite?

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are Engaged!

If you haven’t heard yet, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are tying the knot after dating on and off for three years.  Girls everywhere, including here at Gemvara, are distraught at the news of Hemsworth becoming officially off the market, despite our adoration of Cyrus.  But the juiciest details of this love story is, of course, the ring.  Hemsworth and jeweler Neil Lane worked together to create the antique 3.5 carat cushion cut diamond set in 18 carat yellow gold.  The ring also has intricate detailing with carved diamond floral motifs in an art nouveau pattern.

Luckily for those of us who don’t have a high profile celebrity jeweler on speed dial (or the Hemsworth brothers for that matter), Gemvara has several options that resemble Cyrus’ dazzling ring.
