Radiant Orchid, Pantone’s Color of the Year 2014: How to Get Inspired

Given how much we love a pop of color here at Gemvara, we’re always very excited when the ultimate color authority, Pantone, announces their Color of the Year.  2013 was the year of emerald, and it was embraced everywhere from the red carpet to the stunning rings adorning Gemvara customers’ hands.

Pantone has announced that the 2014 Color of the Year is… Radiant Orchid!  Pantone describes this beautiful color as “a captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones.”  In a press release, Pantone explains this color choice is meant to “intrigue the eye and spark the imagination.”  Well, we’re definitely intrigued by this gorgeous shade of purple and inspired to create in this lovely hue.

We’re sure Radiant Orchid will be seen everywhere from fashion, to home decor, and of course in jewelry. Here are some ways to get inspired by Radiant Orchid and incorporate the color into your custom-made fine jewelry from Gemvara.

Radiant Orchid - Flamenco Ring

The unique design of the Flamenco Ring reminds us of the unique shape of an orchid. Customizing the ring in rhodolite garnet, pink sapphire, and amethyst brings the orchid inspiration to life in a vibrant, jaw-dropping ring.  If you’re looking to embrace Pantone’s Color of the Year, create a piece of jewelry using the many shades of pink and purple we have to create something exquisite.

Radiant Orchid - Faye Ring

In a classic diamond solitaire ring, you can still add a pop of color and use unique inspiration to make the ring uniquely yours.  We took the inspiration of Radiant Orchid to create a band of alternating diamond and amethyst.

Radiant Orchid - Brilliant Infinity Twist Band

Using the pink hues that create Radiant Orchid, we customized the Brilliant Infinity Twist Loop in dazzling pink sapphire.  This gemstone is a gorgeous shade of pink, capturing the same energy and vibrancy of Pantone’s Color of the Year.  For a subtler shade of pink, try customizing in pink tourmaline for a softer look.

Radiant Orchid - Brilliant Jessamine Ring

Fully embracing the beauty of purple, an amethyst is a bold shade of eye-catching fuchsia.  Pairing amethyst with other purple gemstones, like iolite, creates a striking piece of jewelry.

Emerald, Pantone’s Color of the Year 2013: How to Get Inspired

From red carpet to runway, the rich hue of emerald has always been a popular choice among starlets and designers. Now with Pantone (THE color authority) announcing emerald as 2013’s Color of the Year, expect to see this verdant shade making appearances everywhere. A striking tone, the emerald is one of four gemstones defined as “precious” and belongs to an elite list, which includes diamond, ruby, and sapphire. It’s hard to argue the exquisite quality of the color, but incorporating the hue into your wardrobe can also be a bit intimidating. Drawing on inspiration from industry trends in fashion, home décor, and beauty, we’ve come up with tips to navigate this beautifully bold color.

THE ACCENT: Inspiration from Fashion

Adding an accent of emerald to a LBD with a sequined clutch or satin heels creates an eye catching ensemble. Similarly, customizing a piece with emerald as an accent stone allows for a hint of the color and turns heads as shown in our Alyssa Ring.

SHADES OF GREEN: Inspiration from Home Décor

Think of emerald as a jumping-off point to explore other green shades for the home. A bold green wall might not work for most décor, but a softer green can create a calm and rejuvenating space and is neutral enough to compliment almost any aesthetic. Choosing a lighter green stone like green amethyst creates the same effect.

JUST GO FOR IT: Inspiration from Beauty

Notice me nails in a metallic emerald shade is for the person who isn’t afraid to make the color front and center (at least for a few days). Take the same daring approach with a brilliant solitaire emerald in a modern style.

Inspired by the Trends: Schiaparelli Pink

Pink is back! These looks were inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli, a legendary Italian fashion designer, who introduced hot pink into the woman’s wardrobe. For this fall, designers used her taste to create beautiful pieces in all the different shades of pink.  At Gemvara we have three stunning pink gemstone options. Pink tourmaline and pink sapphire are bright and rose quartz is a soft pale.

Jill Sander used a delicate light pink in this  fall jacket. Inspired by this calming shade, we customized the Monsoon Earrings in Rose Quartz. Both pieces are modern and sleek with a romantic touch.

This stunning black lace dress with an accent of shocking bright pink by ERDEM inspired us to create this Triple Rolling Ring. Using another one of our pink colored gemstones, this ring has two circles of pink sapphire and one of black diamond.

We created the Triple Twist Pendant from Pringle’s interpretation of Schiparelli Pink. We used three different shades of pink: pink tourmaline, pink sapphire, and rose quartz to create stunning ombre  effect in the yellow gold. Both pieces are chic, simple, and stylish.

The Infinity Knot Ring in rose gold and pink tourmaline is inspired by Carolina Herrea’s knit fall dress. These two pieces are romantic and classy. Bright colored gemstones and dresses bring this trend to life.

Unique Wedding Bands

Today, the engagement ring and wedding bands can have completely different points of view.  Not only can your wedding band be unique and different, at Gemvara it can be any metal with any gemstone you’d like. The biggest trend right now is individuality. Be yourself when picking out your wedding band as you’ll have it forever! Your band is a reflection of you and your bond with your significant other.

The Zoe Band is a classic, simple band but with distinct gemstone and metal choices this transforms into a band that is individually yours. Styled in trendy rose gold with red garnet and green tourmaline, the Zoe Band’s gemstones sparkle around the entire band.

Distinguish your wedding band with the Balcony Band. Customized with white gold and yellow sapphire, this band is inspired by the wrought iron balconies of the French Quarter of New Orleans. With this intricate design, this wedding band stands out.

Popular but personal, the Brilliant Alhambra Band has the endless Celtic knot motif with five beautiful gemstones. This band was styled in yellow gold and green tourmaline (October’s birthstone!) and is an irreplaceable wedding band.

With this unique wedding band trend, women have been opting to wear their wedding band and engagement on seperate hands. With the above three unique styles, why wouldn’t you want to show your band off separately? Would you follow this trend?

Inspired by the Trends: Architectural

Be inspired by the runway and buy a beautiful a new Gemvara piece! Seen on many runways (including, Louis Vuitton, Alexander Wang, and Emilio Pucci) architectural structured looks are in.

What does architectural entail? As seen by Emilio Pucci, a strong suited look with structured shoulders. The muted tan of the suit also matches the background colors seemingly blending into the actual architecture of the runway.

Seen in the center picture, Louis Vuitton sends a similar muted suit down the runway with added flair – the buttons resemble door or drawer knobs.

The structured leather jacket from Alexander Wang is an urban, NYC chic take on the architectural trend.

Well, as fashion would have it, many Gemvara pieces reflect this trend! The Puzzle Ring could be matched with a similar suit to the Pucci with its classic style and taste. Wearing a tan hue? Reflect it in your jewelry with the Ocean Ring. You would even wear our silver aquamarine, peridot, and black onyx Triple Twist Pendant for added geometric style.

What do you think? Would you wear this trend?
