Inspired by the Trends: Black and Gold

Nothing looks classier then black and gold. This season, designers changed black and gold for the better with shine, sparkly, and flash. With our two gold metal options (yellow and rose) and two black gemstones (diamond and onyx), the options are endless.

Featured largely on the Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2012 runway, the black and gold looks were ornate, delicate, and beautiful. Lots of sparkle and embellishments, just the way we love it!

You can wear the black and gold trend classy and effortless with the Princess Halo Earrings. These earrings are simple and perfect for an every day look but also when looked at closer, are brilliant and stunning.

A little bit more edgy, the Thangka Earrings, adds a sparkly spice to your look. Spiritual and fashionable, these earrings are the perfect way to bring ornate from the runway to your jewelry.

For the most glam, the Naked Cushion Bezel Ring is your go to piece. With a black onyx gemstone in almost 12 carats, this piece is sure to make your hand stand out!

Inspired by the Trends: Architectural

Be inspired by the runway and buy a beautiful a new Gemvara piece! Seen on many runways (including, Louis Vuitton, Alexander Wang, and Emilio Pucci) architectural structured looks are in.

What does architectural entail? As seen by Emilio Pucci, a strong suited look with structured shoulders. The muted tan of the suit also matches the background colors seemingly blending into the actual architecture of the runway.

Seen in the center picture, Louis Vuitton sends a similar muted suit down the runway with added flair – the buttons resemble door or drawer knobs.

The structured leather jacket from Alexander Wang is an urban, NYC chic take on the architectural trend.

Well, as fashion would have it, many Gemvara pieces reflect this trend! The Puzzle Ring could be matched with a similar suit to the Pucci with its classic style and taste. Wearing a tan hue? Reflect it in your jewelry with the Ocean Ring. You would even wear our silver aquamarine, peridot, and black onyx Triple Twist Pendant for added geometric style.

What do you think? Would you wear this trend?

Top 6 Rustic Wedding Trends from MyOnlineWeddingHelp.com

Summer is upon us, as are weddings with a bit (or more) informality. While the traditional fairytale wedding will always be alive and well, today’s open-minded approach of nearly anything goes has broadened horizons to include unique venues and product choices unheard of only a few years ago. Rustic weddings–including rural venues and country style decor–are one such trend. While the overall look can vary dramatically from one event to the next, there are several themes that tend to appear over and over again in these fun weddings.  Six of these are below, along with links to topical pin boards from my Pinterest account and other resources.

The Great Outdoors. Every type of large outdoor space has probably been used for a wedding. Favorites for a rustic flair are farms, ranches, wineries, open fields, and back yards overlooking the countryside. All can add a unique ambiance and incredible backdrops for photos. Get more inspiration here, from my Outdoor Wedding Ideas board on Pinterest.

Barns. If you have lived in urban areas your entire life, you probably picture a barn as messy and smelly. For the most part, this is not so. Clear it out, sweep the floor, and you have a perfect venue for a good time.

Some of the most beautiful wedding receptions are held in barns. This is because a barn’s structure naturally provides many places to hang decorations and lighting from both the rafters and walls. Take a look at the Barn Weddings pinboard  and you will see what I mean.

Mason Jars.  Originally created for canning foods in the mid-1800s, the mason jar is now a decorating staple in some circles. In fact, my daughter and I recently finished a new mason jar brainstorming section on MyOnlineWeddingHelp.com. There is a video plus nine different centerpiece looks to help get the “creative juices” flowing.  Also, you can check out the Mason Jar Wedding pinboard here.

Chalkboards. These are no longer relegated to only the classroom. For a rustic sign, add a distressed frame and handwritten note. A modern day version–chalkboard paint –is even more popular. Spray or brush it onto anything from wine glasses to boards or plywood. After drying, you have your own custom sign surface on which to write anything you would like, such as directions, seating charts, or menus. See what others have done here.

Cowboy Boots for the Girls. Country singing star Miranda Lambert wore them in her wedding to Blake Shelton, as did her bridesmaids,  but they weren’t the first. This is a trend that has been quietly building over the last couple of years and is continuing to be popular for country-rustic nuptials. Miranda chose white for herself and brown for the rest of the wedding party. Other brides have worn brown boots, with non-matching colored boots for the bridesmaids or some other variation. Take a look here for ideas.

Burlap. The first time I heard of burlap as a decorating material I was befuddled. The stuff potato sacks are made from? Yes, that stuff! It turns out the material is surprisingly versatile and attractive. You can dress it up with lace, pair it with wildflowers and twine for a “down home country” look, or anything in between. Favors, bouquets, table cloths, centerpieces, and chair covers are a few of the ways burlap is making an appearance in weddings. (Many real life ideas are here) The best way to purchase the fabric by the bolt or roll is through an online store. You can find several options–including dyed burlap–here.

I hope these suggestions have inspired several ideas for your own rustic wedding. Happy planning!

Oh, the Madness

Have you caught the fever? No, not spring fever… March Madness fever!

If you’ve never heard of March Madness it is an NCAA single-elimination college basketball tournament held each spring in the United States.

Before you roll your eyes, March Madness is actually a lot more fun than you may think. Picking teams for a March Madness bracket can be as much fun for the girly-girl as it is for the die-hard fan because it all boils down to luck. There are so many upsets during the series that you can win just as easily by creating a bracket based on team mascots than you can from analyzing every player on every team.

While we’re not saying that will actually work, we do suggest you follow along. Besides your alma mater might even be in the tournament!

Have a team you’re rooting for this year? What are your team’s colors? Figure it out and design some jewelry using our customization feature on gemvara.com. After all—you may need some victory bling when your boys take it home April 2.

Need inspiration? Check out our boards on Pinterest and pin your own pieces using hashtag #MarchMadness.

Patterned Pants: Can you Handle Them?

This post is part of a guest blogger series featuring Alana Brooks of The Good Girl Gone Blog.

Patterned pants, especially of the printed denim variety, have seemingly exploded across fashion magazines and blogs alike. With options ranging from bold animal print to girly florals, there’s an option for practically everyone. Patterned Pants are definitely not for the meek, so try them if you dare!

Here are three ways to wear the trend:

Floral MotifFor a softer, girlier look, try floral patterns. Pair with a flowy top and pearl earrings. Sources: 1,2,3.

geometricFor an edgy, modern look, go geometric! Pair bold black + patterned pants with a bright t-shirt and chunky, colorful earrings. Sources: 1,2,3.

animal print

If you’re feeling extra bold, go wild with animal print. For a more toned down look, stick to basic black or white on top, and keep jewelry minimal with a black cocktail ring. Sources: 1,2,3.
