Unless you’ve been living under a rock, we think it’s safe to assume you’ve heard that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are engaged. Can we get a resounding, “Finally!”? Now let’s get right into the good stuff – the ring. While it’s not an emerald (May’s birthstone) or a black diamond like we had guessed, the ring is no doubt a showstopper.
Designed by Robert Procop in collaboration with Pitt himself, the ring is a dazzling tablet-shaped diamond ringing in at $500,000. However, if you don’t have that kind of cash lying around, Gemvara offers a similar style in the Evelyn Ring. Set in rock crystal Gemvara’s ring comes to $1,200.
How do you feel about wearing a celebrity-look-alike engagement ring? Would you wear this style? Or customize it to be your own?

We can’t all have Brad Pitt— or a ring estimated at $1 million, either — but several jewelers already have Angelina Jolie-inspired sparklers ready to go.
Jacob & Co., the jeweler loved by stars like Jay-Z, Nick Cannon and Kevin Jonas, has its own version of Jolie’s ring (left), an 18-karat white gold creation with baguette-cut diamonds around the band retailing for a cool $338,000 — before the addition of an extra-large emerald-cut center stone.
A more affordable option comes by way of Gemvara, which just released a rock crystal and sterling silver version of the ring for $1,195. The bauble features an emerald-cut center gem and emerald-cut side stones.

Jolie’s engagement ring — which could weigh up to 10 carats and cost as much as $1 million, according to an independent expert — was created by Pitt with jeweler Robert Procop, who also works on the actress’s “Style of Jolie” line.
“Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized over a year-long collaboration with Robert,” a spokesperson for Procop said in a statement. “He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so Robert was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suit Angelina’s hand.” Tell us: Would you buy a replica of Jolie’s ring?
Vintage-inspired jewelry has risen in popularity over the years. This may be due in part to the fashion on television series like Mad Men and the recent resurgence of art nouveau styles in fashion and interior design. Celebrities like Taylor Swift have also been seen wearing vintage styles and Kate Moss has a vintage-inspired engagement ring.
Here are five elements that might inspire you to choose a vintage look:
1. Customization: Few have access to original pieces — and even then it’s hard to guarantee that an antique piece will be exactly what you want. New vintage-style jewelry comes in hundreds of styles. You can even design your own.
2. Classic Colors: Many vintage looks come in garnet, emerald and other vibrant gemstones in addition to diamonds. Gemstone jewelry stands out and makes a wonderful conversation piece.
3. Glittering Accents: Vintage-inspired jewelry often sparkles with tiny accent diamonds. These make the pieces shine, and frame the main gem beautifully.
4. Wearable Art: Because vintage designs have been inspired by decades-old fashions, these jewels remain classic and timeless. Investing in vintage-inspired jewelry is like investing in a piece of art. The fact that vintage is so popular also gives you an extra incentive to take care of the jewels you already own.
5. Romantic Nostalgia: There’s something inherently romantic about classic vintage styles. From the elegance of emerald-cut diamonds to the dainty architecture of filigree, these designs have a sentimental beauty.

You may know Ellie Kemper as the ditzy, sweet receptionist on The Office, but last night, she looked anything but demure. Wearing a stunning Armani Prive sequined gown (Fall 2010), she lit up the red carpet with her cheerful smile and copper colored ensemble.
Ellie kept her makeup subtle, aside from a sultry smoky eye, which helped her accessories shine. I loved that she didn’t shy away from standout jewelry and chose to wear a pair of gorgeous Lorraine Schwartz earrings. I’m hoping that Ellie’s chosen palette will help bring coppery colored rose gold jewelry back into the spotlight. Hues like rose gold look amazing in the summer against bronzed skin, so it’s a no brainer. Ready to try the trend? Here are a few of my favorite options, all from Gemvara!
Camila Alves’ ring has finally seen the light of day (at least for us plebeians) at NYC Fashion Week. The model-turned-handbag designer flashed the three-stone, rose-cut diamond ring at a show, telling Us Weekly “it feels so great”. Eternally shirtless movie star/bronzed god Matthew McConaughey proposed to his girlfriend on Christmas Day. What’s a rose cut? Think of a 3D, faceted dome, like a cut cabochon.
While Gemvara doesn’t currently offer rose-cut gems or diamonds (they’re not so easy to find), we do have four styles of lovely engagement rings very similar to Camila’s three-stone style. And because we’re all about customization, we’ve added some sparkly side gems. Which style is your favorite and how would you customize it? All diamonds? Center diamond with sapphires? Discuss!
Whether she’s glamming it up at her latest movie premiere or rocking the red carpet in support of her musician hubby, lately Katherine Heigl has been sporting some serious bling. Not usually one to exude sexiness, or even revel in the spotlight, Katherine has been coming out of her shell lately with some killer looks.
At the premiere of her new movie One for the Money in Germany, Katherine dared to take a walk on the wild side with a zebra print dress and some stand-out earrings. Her gems reminded us of spring and we couldn’t help but associate them with our Hera Earrings. We love that they look like little leaves. They are gorgeous in yellow and orange gemstones, like citrine and fire opal (styled above), but would be just as gorgeous in green, purple, or blue.
You can customize the Hera Earrings however you’d like on gemvara.com. Just get ready to attract some attention!
You may have begun to feel that we sound like a broken record, but really, can you blame us? Sofia Vergara has done it again!
At this year’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards Sofia arrived wearing a magenta Marchesa gown and Lorriane Schwartz jewels that looked good enough to eat. Her earrings and cuff were made of amethyst and were a beautiful compliment to her dress. However, Sofia won us over when she joked, “I never go to these events without bling, bling.” And at that, we threw our arms up with joy and declared Sofia as our favorite for jewelry of the night.
However, there were some fantastic runner’s up. Big earrings got the most attention, while bracelets like Lea Michele’s came in second. Necklaces were still scarce and sometimes difficult to pull off (in the case of Kristen Wigg’s choker). Nevertheless, we enjoyed the spectacle and look forward to the peak of celebrity glamour at the Oscars.

Ever wonder how celebrities choose what jewelry to wear at red-carpet events?
Besides hiring a stylist, some stars get the privelege of attending Michael O’Connor’s exclusive and fabulous jewelry suites. It is here that jewelry and style expert, Michael, curates a collection of jewels from top designers and allows celebs to try on and choose their favorites. It’s a veritable fairy tale for any fashion-hound.
We are so honored that Michael chose our gems to be featured in his Golden Globes Suite this year. (Gemvara was also included in his 2011 Emmy Suite and our earrings were worn by actress Retta Sirleaf).
Here are some shots from Michael’s 2012 Golden Globes Suite, as well as a video highlighting the top jewelry styles of the season. Which piece is your favorite?

I don’t know about you, but I crave statement jewelry at big, red-carpet award shows. Like a human magpie, I am glued to my TV just waiting for a glimpse of a bright and shiny necklace or some mega-watt earrings.
However, sometimes (I bashfully admit) it’s nice to see celebrities wearing items that I could potentially wear myself because, let’s be honest, who is really stepping out of their house in $5 million worth of Harry Winston gems?
For better or worse, this year’s Golden Globe Awards brought with it a lot of minimalism. Don’t get me wrong, there was definitely some major bling, but for the most part, the actresses kept things on the simpler side. Although (as I have expressed) I am not a big fan of minimalism at award shows, it sure makes for some easy style inspiration for daily life.
Studs and simple, elegant earrings were the more popular pieces of the night. Colored studs like Emma Stone’s and Helen Mirren’s sapphire drops are a great way to brighten up your look for spring. They’re subtle, but believe me — they make a difference.
Green and purple were also popular colors on the carpet, as seen on Debra Messing and Julianna Margulies. This color combo could be worn easily with Gemvara’s Firework Earrings or in a fashionable gemstone ring.
Above are our top picks for how to get the Golden Globes red-carpet look for less. Which looks are you excited to try?
