Gem Class: Tanzanite

You never know when you might discover the next precious gemstone. Less than 50 years ago, Tanzanite was discovered in the Mererani Hills of Northern Tanzania (thus its name!). Tanzanite is the from the violet/blue variety colored mineral zoisite.

This gemstone requires artificial heat treatment to 600 degrees Celsius in a gemological oven to bring out the blue violet in the stone! It is originally a brownish/grey when mined!
