With Emmy preparations already underway, celebrities walking the red carpet are facing the grueling task of deciding which luscious jewels to wear for the big night. Michael O’Connor, Jewelry and Style Expert, is there to help them.
Michael is the “go-to” resource for editors and producers seeking information on the latest jewelry trends. This year, Michael has chosen some Gemvara jewelry from our new line (see below) to be featured in his Emmy Suite – a highly curated collection of jewels from top designers created for celebrities to consider for the red carpet. This by-appointment-only suite in the Beverly Hills Four Seasons Hotel attracts a red-carpet parade of Emmy-nominated actresses. We hope that one of our favorites will chose a Gemvara piece so she can have fun customizing the stones to match her dress!
In the meantime, Michael gives us the inside scoop on the three biggest trends we will be seeing on the red carpet this season:
1. Color is the New Black
“Just as we’ve seen on the runways during Fashion Week this month, bold color is the new basic black” Michael told me. “Designers leaned toward many cooler colors, such turquoise, hyacinth and ink blues, and grass greens. Pops of warm color have lessened, but poppy-red and creamsicle-orange are getting a lot of attention. This means that the rainbow of gem colors will be extremely important to create either monochromatic looks or a color contrast effect. the neutrals featured on the runways, like honey and sandstone, which need a pop of color to give them life”
2. Bigger is Better
“Larger silhouettes on the runway this fall mean larger proportion for jewelry. In order to keep up with the more voluminous fabric treatments (i.e. larger lapels and bold ornamentation on clothing), jewelry is going bigger to keep it all in proportion. Earrings are getting larger again, bracelets are getting chunkier and necklaces are getting bolder. ”
3. It’s All in the Mix
“Recent runway designs showed unique mixes of patterns and fabrics such as leather and sequins or silk and burlap. For jewelry, mixes of precious gold or platinum with leather and rubber or silver with precious gems like sapphires, emeralds and diamonds, continue to be a hot trend that works well with the juxtaposed chic of the runway. Additionally, designers are throwing in roughly polished gems or gem slices for a chic look when partnered with diamonds. Finishes on jewelry are also enjoying juxtaposition with plenty of blackened silver, gold, and platinum set with sparkling gems.“
