2011 Golden Globes: In the Pink

Blush, powder-puff, coral, salmon and fuchsia: many of the colors on 2011′s Golden Globe colorful red carpet were inspired by the cosmetics counter.  Stars who were pretty in pink include Julianne Moore, Lea Michelle, Claire Danes, Nathalie Portman, and Sandra Bullock.

If the palette was from make-up, add in some green eye-shadow: Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta Jones, Elizabeth Moss and Mila Kunis had emerald-green gowns. Angelina matched green with emerald earrings from her upcoming jewelry collection, Catherine dripped in diamonds from Van Cleef & Arpels and Elizabeth chose Lorraine Schwartz.)  Ladies in red included January Jones and Christina Hendricks from Mad Men.

The best jewelry looks of the night were surprisingly modern and fresh, with a nod to the seventies: best actress Claire Dane’s 70s-era diamond-frosted cuff bracelet by Fred Leighton and best supporting actress Katey Sagal in striking geometric earrings.  Can we expect more modern styles at the Oscars?

Jane Krakowski and Tina Fey both shone in dramatic blue sapphire earrings by Lorraine Schwartz. Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood and Alicia Keys all wore jewels in their hair.

Lea Michele wore a spectacular vivid teal Paraiba tourmaline ring by Lorraine Schwartz which contrasted beautifully with her pink dress.  Lea wasn’t the only one to play with color contrast: Julianne Moore wore emerald rings with her pink gown, Sofia Vergara wore a David Webb Persian turquoise ring with deep pink, Nicole Kidman wore jet black and turquoise with a creamy pink gown, and Kyra Sedgwick set off turquoise-studded Ofira jewelry against an orange gown.

Many stars chose small classic stud or drop earrings. Although many stars, like Eva Longoria and Michelle Williams, chose bare necks and stud earrings, there were more pretty necklaces than usual.  Julianne Moore threaded a spectacular Bulgari diamond necklace through her shocking pink Lanvin dress, Nathalie Portman had a fringe of diamonds by Tiffany & Co, Helen Mirren had a dramatic waterfall necklace by Cartier, Sarah Hyand had beautiful golden pearls in lacy diamonds by Mikimoto, and Diane Agron won many votes for best jewelry with a lovely lacy diamond bib by Cathy Waterman.
