Emmy Jewels: Red Gems on the Red Carpet

NBC’s peacock and tag line “more colorful” lined the 2010 Emmy red carpet this year and the stars obeyed, with colorful gowns and even more colorful jewelry. Even black was not-so basic this year, as stars added boldly colored earrings to enliven dark dresses.

The jewel tone of the night was definitely red.  Eva Longoria Parker was the best example of this. She set off her basic black goddess dress by Robert Rodriguez with stunning ruby chandelier earrings by Loren Jewels.

Tina Fey moved away from her usual basic black, accessorizing her embroidered black and white Oscar De La Renta gown with ruby and black diamond drop earrings by Lorraine Schwartz.

Kelly Osborne looked surprisingly stunning in plain black diamond drop earrings and Tony Ward black gown.

Heidi Klum wore a bold ruby and diamond statement necklace and bold ruby ring by Lorraine Schwartz to accent a short black Marquesa dress. Even Anna Paquin,whose black and gold Alexander McQueen dress with beaded epaulettes was hardly basic, added a rubellite bracelet to the black and gold stacks on both arms.

Kyra Sedgwick wore a burgundy Monique Lhuillier gown with a bold 60-carat rubellite tourmaline ring by Ofira and an armful of colorful “Eat Pray Love” style bracelets in platinum.

Mariana Klaveno from True Blood wore red  topaz to offset her pink Tony Ward dress and Naya Rivera wore pear shape ruby earrings to accent her teal satin dress.
Jennifer Westfeldt wore a large and lovely amethyst ring with her beaded gown, as well as the dashing Jon Hamm on her arm, the ultimate accessory.

Statement necklaces had a surprisingly strong showing.  Lea Michele rocked a glamorous fancy colored diamond bib necklace by Lorraine Schwartz with her navy Oscar de la Renta gown, winning the top place on many best-dressed lists, although the Emmy for best actress in a comedy went to Edie Falco.
