Originally a showcase of comic books, science fiction/fantasy film and TV, Comic-Con was founded as the Golden State Comic Book Convention in 1970. The event, known as being an all-out “geek fest,” took place over four days in San Diego July 21-24. The convention included seminars, workshops, previews of feature films, award ceremonies, preview sessions hosted by comic book and video game companies, and a Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival.
Comic Con today has become a platform for all things pop culture, and the top styles to boot. More casual than most red carpet events, the glitz and glamour of it all has a fun and playful feel, giving celebs an open door to explore simpler styles with shimmering shine. Here is a recap of some of my favorite Comic-Con looks this year.
Eva Mendez went shiny and strapless, with ears bare but with a Le Vian chocolate diamond link-style ring. Link rings, especially in yellow gold, are a style category to watch this season.
Vanessa Hudgens brought her A-game to the red carpet for Sucker Punch. She accessorized a knockout black stitch dress with a metallic cuff bracelet and gold leaf earrings. The pairing of gold with silver was a daring move on her part that she clearly pulled off.
Green Lantern girl Blake Lively busted out in Preen and Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a post-modern businesswoman suit. Seven ’80s-style bracelets stacked perfectly on her right wrist gave her look a “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” feel. She classed it up with turquoise dangle earrings that accentuated her bright white smile.
Ali Larter displayed her beautiful baby bump and kept her jewelry pieces simple and all-gold. She wore sizeable gold hoops and a funky gold triple-layered necklace.
True Blood’s Anna Paquin mixed busy with simple by hushing her loud halter dress with two simple silver bracelets.
Actress, writer and improviser Brooke Lenzi is a performer on stage and screen in Los Angeles. She likes gifts that come in small packages.
